Our Beavers, Cubs, and Scouts went on a thrilling two-night trip to Drum Hill Scout Campsite last month, jam-packed with exciting activities! From archery and climbing to abseiling and using knives and axes, the young people engaged in endless fun while learning skills for life. It was a fantastic camp!
This camp was an important milestone for our group because it was the first time we used some of our new camping equipment, such as our ultra-modern inflatable tents. This update promises greater ease and comfort for our upcoming camping trips, marking a significant advancement in camping technology.
Our group administrator, Raksha, gave her impressions of the camp:
Over the years I have attended many camps. Some stick in my mind, such as when I forgot my roll mat and was extremely cold the whole weekend or the time we requested stoves to cook on from the Quartermaster but did not include the gas, so we didn’t get any. We spent the whole weekend trying to keep fires alight in the rain.
Others, like last month’s camp, will stay with me for other reasons. At this camp, we had beautiful new tents that even the Beavers could put up. They are blow-up tents. You peg them out, attach a pump, and the air goes into channels that would normally hold the poles—so easy.
We also had a new party tent used as our cook tent and headquarters. It was actually two tents in one, so we could split them to use for different-sized camps. At this camp, we had 22 young people: Beavers, Cubs and Scouts. With just a tiny shower of rain on Saturday morning, the weather was good. We lit fires, cut wood, made armpit fudge, and many more activities. On Saturday night, we had a campfire where we told jokes and sang songs. We were so loud that other campers either joined us or set up in competition – we won!
I really enjoy camps because they give us a chance to just sit and talk. During Section nights, there is so much to do that quiet times are sometimes missing. You find out so much about the young people while eating breakfast or doing crafts. In my opinion, the youth of today are quite awesome.
