Could you help lead and support the future of our Scout Group?
We are looking for a new Chair of the Trustee Board to help guide the governance and long-term success of 22nd Burton Upon Trent (St Mark’s) Scout Group.
As Chair, you’ll lead a team of Trustees who work together to support the Group. From keeping an eye on governance and decision-making, to supporting recruitment, meetings and long-term planning, the Trustee Board helps make sure the Group is set up properly and operating well.
You don’t need to have been a Trustee before. We’ll support you, and you’ll be able to learn as you go.
What the role involves
The Chair helps to:
- lead the Trustee Board
- plan when Trustee Board meetings take place
- agree what should be discussed at each meeting
- chair Trustee Board meetings and the Annual General Meeting
- work closely with the Lead Volunteer and other key volunteers
- support the recruitment of new Trustees
- help new Trustees settle into their roles
- support Trustees through check-ins, reasonable adjustments where needed, and annual reviews
This is a governance role, not a weekly section leadership role. You would not be expected to run Squirrel, Beaver, Cub, or Scout meetings. Instead, you would help make sure the charity behind the group is well supported and moving in the right direction.
Who we are looking for

- organised and reliable
- comfortable leading meetings
- able to listen to different views and help people reach decisions
- interested in supporting young people and the local community
- willing to learn about how Scouts operates
- able to work as part of a friendly volunteer team
No previous Scouting experience is required. Full support and training will be provided.

Our Scout Group gives young people the chance to build confidence, develop skills, make friends, and experience adventure. The Trustee Board plays a vital role in making that possible by supporting the group’s finances, governance, buildings, safety, and future planning.
