At Scouts, we celebrate difference and welcome everyone.
Whatever your background, identity or ability, there’s a volunteer spot with your name on it.
Volunteering can be a brilliant way to boost your mental wellbeing. It’s a great feeling knowing you’re helping young people get skills for life, and you might even learn a lot about yourself along the way.
Scouts can make you feel good in other ways too. We’ll guide you to an opportunity where you’ll:
- Make friends and meet people
- Try new things and challenge yourself
- Get outdoors and get stuck in
- Positively impact your community
- Create vital opportunities for young people
- Make memories that’ll last a lifetime
If you can only occasionally help, that’s OK. Whether you’d like to be an activity planner, tea-maker or craft creator, we appreciate any time you can spare.
Volunteering with young people
Team player? Love supporting young people? Great at planning?
Each week, our volunteers help young people gain skills for life through activities and adventures.
Most of our volunteers work directly with young people aged 4 to 18 through our groups, known as Sections, which are:

Squirrels
Help 4 to 6 year olds discover their world through play and adventure as a Squirrels volunteer!

Beavers
Fun, friends, and first steps into the great outdoors for 6–8 year olds!

Cubs
Allowing 8–10½ year olds to discover, explore, and make every day an adventure!

Scouts
Challenge 10½–14 year olds to learn new skills and lead the way!
Working in teams, they might:
- Welcome young people and families to sessions and events
- Make sure everyone’s safe, supported, included and having fun
- Help to plan and lead activities
- Get involved with days out, camps and expeditions
- Share and learn skills – from coding to cake decorating to canoeing
- Celebrate young people’s achievements both big and small
No previous experience with young people? No problem.
Whether you’d like to help out week after week or whenever you can, we provide learning opportunities and cups of tea every step of the way.
Make a Big Impact Behind the Scenes!
You can create incredible opportunities for young people without running activities, going on trips, or leading sessions. Working directly with young people isn’t for everyone. Become a trustee, and make decisions that’ll give young people #SkillsforLife

Fundraising
Help us secure the resources we need to keep offering amazing activities. You’ll play a key role in ensuring our group thrives from organising events to seeking grants.

Trustees
Use your governance, strategy, or finance skills to support our leadership team. Trustees ensure the group runs safely, legally, and sustainably, providing the foundation for everything we do.

Building Maintenance Team
Keep our facilities in top shape for young people to enjoy. Your skills, whether fixing, painting, or improving spaces, will create a safe and welcoming environment for our Scouts.

Admin Roles
Help keep our group running smoothly by managing records, organizing events, or maintaining communications. Your attention to detail makes a huge difference, from welcoming new members to tracking badges.
